Putting the Humanities Into Practice
It is widely recognized that the humanities face significant challenges, both nationally and internationally, and for a variety of well-documented reasons. Yet what is too often overlooked is the remarkable potential—and indeed the demonstrated success—of humanistic research and skills beyond the confines of humanities departments and outside the walls of academia.

In his inaugural lecture at Copenhagen Business School, Lasse Horne Kjældgaard reflects on his own professional journey: from Professor of Danish Literature to serving as the first CEO of the Carlsberg Foundation. How can insights and skills of literary scholarship be translated into the practice of philanthropic leadership? And what does this tell us about the broader value of the humanities in shaping purposeful, impactful leadership?

Short Bio
Lasse Horne Kjældgaard is a Danish literary scholar and critic. He is a professor of literature and has been the CEO of the Carlsberg Foundation since 2023.
