Paper information:
The brown bag seminar by Martin Jes Iversen will be based on the new book “Danish Shipping in the 21st Century – Navigating Troubled Waters” published Palgrave Macmillan: https://www.palgrave.com/gp/book/9783030433239 and written by Martin Jes Iversen and Jesper Buhl.
The presentation will include a short introduction to the general development in Danish shipping after year 2000. A remarkable story of strategy and innovation in both booming and depressed markets. Then follows the analysis of two typical (but opposite) strategies among the new maritime companies in Denmark: the cluster of asset light operators and the new investment based capital intensive shipowners. At the very end I will try to relate the findings to strategy and innovation in other industries and this will be the point of departure for the following debate.
