‘The US-China Tension, De-globalization, and Changing Global Value Chains’
The lecture will discuss fundamental changes in the global economy brought by the pandemic, US-China tensions, and related trends of de-globalization. The focus will be on the prospect of the Chinese economy facing the middle-income trap and Thucydides trap as well as on the changes in global value chains in which re-shoring, nearshoring, and exiting China are key phenomena. It examines the situation in high-tech sectors, particularly semi-conductors in East Asia, where global values chains are being re-shuffled by both economic resilience and geopolitical concerns.

Douglas Fuller, Associate Professor, Department of International Economics, Government and Business, CBS
Cornel Ban, Associate Professor, Department of Organization, CBS
