Abstract:

There is a story of a country that is worth discussing, particularly how that countries Bio-technology ecosystem rose up to the challenge and took on the corona  pandemic.. India has emerged as a large Bio-tech center where cutting edge research continues to seek solutions. Dr Deepanwita Chattopadhyay has played an instrumental role in leading and supporting the development of the bio-technology ecosystem with a difference. Her specific interest is in combining business with biotechnology to ensure the diffusion of cutting edge inventions and market innovations. She will share her experience about how the Indian bio-technology industrial ecosystem grew to meet the challenges of our times. She will share India’s recent corona experiences,  reflecting about successes and continuing challenges.  

 

About Ms. Deepanwita Chattopadhyay:

Ms. Deepanwita Chattopadhyay is a visionary leader known for her contribution in the field of innovation, entrepreneurship and science park management. From being an engineering faculty, a manager at an NGO, a freelance writer and a Vice President in a Bank and finally becoming the CEO and Chair of IKP Knowledge Park, the largest Science Park in India, and Co-Founder and Chair of a start-up, Deepanwita’s life has been a remarkable journey of learning by doing.

Deepanwita played a pivotal role in establishing India's first Life Science Research Park in Hyderabad's Genome Valley, creating a sustainable innovation cluster through a Public-Private Partnership model. She pioneered a Hardware Product Incubator and Makerspace, IKP EDEN, in Bangalore and works with Indian and global partners to support over 1500 innovation projects and early startups.

In 2023, she was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 3rd annual 'Women in Biotech Conclave and Awards,' organized by the Golden Jubilee Biotech Park for Women Society in Chennai, India. She is a recipient of the 2021 FICCI FLO Influential Women Award. In 2018, she was recognised by AsiaOne Business Magazine among the "Top Women Achiever of the Year 2017 in Asia," and as the "Women of the Decade in Life Sciences & Innovation" by the Women Economic Forum. She authored the India Chapter for the Global Innovation Index Report GII2020.

Ms. Chattopadhyay serves as the Treasurer and Executive Board Member of the International Association of Science Parks (IASP) in Malaga, Spain. She co-founded Support Elders Pvt. Ltd., a startup focusing on at-home elder care services. She sits on the Board of several companies, associations and incubators. She is a member of several National level committees including the S&T Cluster Apex Committee under the Office of the Principal Scientific Advisor to the Govt. of India, Committee of the Prime Minister’s Fellowship for Doctoral Research, DST, GoI, Consultative Committee of S&T and Innovation in NITI Aayog, DBT Committee on Biotech Parks and the Taskforce of Startup20 under G20.
