With a population of just under 20 million, Chile is now aiming for 80% renewable electricity by 2030 and a 100% zero-emissions power grid by 2050. In 2022, wind and solar energy surpassed coal, marking the dominance of renewables in the local energy sector.
Chile, home to substantial lithium reserves — a metal crucial for renewable energy technologies — announced a new national lithium strategy last year. This strategy is designed to ensure that future mining and development proceed in an equitable and environmentally friendly manner. Additionally, strong investment in green hydrogen is bolstering Chile’s energy transition strategy.
