How Low Interest Rates Change the World

For four decades, from 1980 to 2020, global interest rates steadily declined, even turning negative in some countries. This shift had profound societal impacts, including rising global debt, soaring house and stock prices, and increasing inequality. In the aftermath of the pandemic, interest rates have risen once more. But is the world entering a new era of persistently higher rates, or is this merely a temporary fluctuation?

While not a book launch, this event will take its starting point in Professor of Finance and PeRCent Co-Director Jesper Rangvid’s newly released book, How Low Interest Rates Change the World - Jesper Rangvid - Oxford University Press.

At the event, Jesper Rangvid will present key insights from his book.
He will be joined by:

  • Thomas Harr, Assistant Governor and Head of Economics and Monetary Policy at Danmarks Nationalbank
  • Carl-Johan Dahlgaard, Professor of Economics and Chairman of the Board of the Danish Economic Councils.
The speakers will share their perspectives on the long-term effects of low interest rates and the implications of the current macroeconomic shift.

The discussion will conclude with a panel debate, moderated by Kenneth Praefke, Economic Correspondent at Børsen, with opportunities for the audience to ask questions and join the dialogue.

The event will conclude with a light reception.
