Abstract
How can the labor movement respond to the dual challenges of climate change and shifting global power? Damon Silvers, long-time policy director of the AFL-CIO, former member of the U.S. Congressional Oversight Panel during the financial crisis, and Visiting Professor at UCL Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose, will examine how unions and workers are positioned in the struggles that define this turbulent era. With a second Trump presidency set to fundamentally reshape US policy on trade, energy, and climate, Silvers will explore the risks and opportunities for organized labor as industries transition and geopolitical rivalries intensify. From clean energy supply chains to the politics of just transition, the stakes for workers could not be higher. Drawing on decades of experience at the heart of US labor and economic policy, Silvers will offer a unique perspective on how labor can navigate — and contest — the forces remaking the global economy and the climate transition.
