Workshop with Lauren McCarthy (Bayes Business School, UK):

‘Positionality in Research: Reflecting on Context, Identity & Ethics’

February 27th, 10:00-12:00 (plus lunch)

Copenhagen Business School
Dalgas Have 15, 2000 Frederiksberg

Dalgas Have DH.Ø.2.71 & DH.Ø.2.73
(Second floor in the east/turquoise wing)

In this learning circle we explore some of the tensions and challenges around doing research, particularly fieldwork, in geographic and cultural contexts different from our own. How do we avoid being extractive in our exchanges with research partners and participants? Are there methodological positions or approaches that can ameliorate the power imbalance? How do we acknowledge our own positionality without making the research all about us?

Lauren will reflect on some of the challenges and opportunities around these themes. After Lauren’s introductory talk, we would like to invite everyone to share their own experiences and learn from each other. After the workshop, we welcome participants to stay for lunch.

Lauren McCarthy is a Senior Lecturer in Corporate Social Responsibility at Bayes Business School (formerly Cass). She is a thought leader on the topics of business, responsibility, and gender, particularly in global supply chains, and is known for her work with inclusive and participatory methods.

CBS HUMAC is a research project on private-sector involvement in humanitarian action financed by Velux Fonden. You can read more about the project here: https://www.cbshumac.org
