Seminar on the 20th Party Congress of the Chinese Communist Party

At the 20th Party Congress in October 2022 and at the recent meeting of the National People’s Congress Xi Jinping was reelected as general secretary of the Chinese Communist Party and as president of the PRC. At both meetings new leaders were elected to top positions in Party and government and important new economic and political policy directions were laid out. In addition major institutional restructuring took place transferring even more functions and responsibilities from the state to the Party. What is the goal of this centralization of power in the CCP and what does it mean for policy-making and governance in the economic and political arena?
