Colombia's Energy Crossroads: Navigating the Transition from Fossil Fuels to Sustainable Energy

Colombia, currently reliant on hydroelectric power for 70% of its energy matrix, has embarked on ambitious strategies for an energy transition. This includes implementing fiscal incentives to catalyse investment in non-conventional renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar.

A key focus of this seminar will be Colombia's dependency on fossil fuel exports, which comprise 55% of its goods exports. Overcoming this dependency is crucial for the transition to renewable energy and entails substantial investments, infrastructure development, and strategic policy reforms. This balance between economic imperatives and environmental goals presents a significant challenge.

This lecture by Haendel Sebastián Rodríguez G., First Secretary, Colombian Embassy in Denmark, aims to engage CBS students in a comprehensive discussion, encouraging them to critically analyse Colombia's energy transition complexities. The session will offer insights into the interplay between business and environmental sustainability, resonating with the overarching theme of Energy Transition for Sustainable Development in Latin America.
